Our British friends Marianne and Chris Fisher of Tread the Globe hit the news channels big-time when their video of being scammed by a PDRM Traffic Policemen went viral. Watch for yourself how the policeman solicits a bribe, and then handles the money, leaving them puzzled as to what had just happened.
What Chris and Marianne said on their video was, “Driving around the world in our UK van it’s not unusual for us to be stopped but what happened on this police stop was a first for us.”
The video went viral, notching 140,000 views in day, surpassing 60K views in a day, and over 228,000 views in 2 days, breaking all their previous records.
Almost all the major news channels here carried the story.
PDRM also issued a statement saying they were investigating the case, and looking for the British couple.
The Fishers declined to give the raw footage to any news agencies. Instead, through the British High Commission in Malaysia, they have contacted PDRM to give them the raw footage that it has asked for.
That traffic cop may be faceless to us but the New Straits Times has already reported that Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police had identified the traffic police involved.
Free Malaysia Today reported that Yusri Hassan Basri said the three, aged 37 to 42, were attached to the traffic investigation and enforcement department of the Perak contingent police headquarters.
“They have been remanded for three days until Feb 1 to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement.
Yusri added that Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit had taken over the probe from the Perak police.
Well done with the quick action, PDRM.
