KL Academy of Polo had another successful RSPC Pony Club event with 20 Pony Clubbers learning about horses and polo, and even riding in a Handy Pony. Held last weekend, it was only the second Pony Club event held in this Covid lockdown interrupted year. Chris Ladbrook and Beverly Whittel came to help our coaches Ali and Suresh out with the coaching, so we had a really fun group. As much as the coaches, we could not have run this camp without the many volunteers that came forward to help us. Volunteers are the lifeblood of any Pony Club. We really had a fantastic group of volunteers.
It really was a Pony Club Camp that I was proud of. There was riding every day, learning about the parts of a horse and saddlery, a farriery demonstration by Farrier Johary, foot mallet work and hitting on the saddle horses on the field, hitting off real polo ponies and a really fun Handy Pony event.

The next Pony Club Camp is scheduled for 17th, 18th and 19th December. It will be a ‘dismounted camp’ in that the kids won’t be riding themselves. That camp will be part of the 1st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament organised by KL Academy of Polo, at the Royal Selangor Polo Club. Our Pony Clubbers will learn about the game of polo in a series of talks, and be assigned as support groups for the teams that are playing in the tournament and take part in a flag parade. It will be great fun for them, and inspiring, to be part of Malaysia’s first Youth Polo Tournament.
