I was given the second vaccination against Covid-19 yesterday. It was a second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The whole process was very smooth at University Malaya.
The second appointment didn’t require the interview by doctors, which had been completed at my first vaccination. The process was faster – it was just a log-in to the database, and then the actual jab. Even the post-jab waiting time was cut short a little, and I was in and out in out in under 20 minutes.
So far, so good. I took a Panadol as recommended, and had an earlier than usual night. This morning, still no reaction so far, just a very slight ache in my arm when I move it.
I’ve now got a vaccination ‘passport’ in my MySejahtera App, though I don’t think Malaysians are allowed to go anywhere yet. We are still Rolling With The Changes, and while we plan the tours, Malaysia seems to get deeper into the pandemic! The number of new Covid infections reported daily is staggering.
I encourage everyone to get vaccinated so that the world can start to get back to normal. It was almost surreal to watch the Euro 2020 football, with thousands of spectators at Wembley, many without masks. They could do it because most of Europe is fully vaccinated, while Malaysia’s vaccination rate is only around 10%. We must get everyone vaccinated so that we can return to some kind of normality. It may be a new normal, with vaccinations, vaccination passports, masks and some social distancing, but it is a world I would welcome.
I’m still dreaming of doing these tours I wrote about, when we finally get to a post pandemic, fully vaccinated world.
This time, two years ago, Natasha and I, and few very good friends from around the world were at the Shandur Polo Festival in Pakistan. What a magical tour that was! I have shared the sensational photo taken by Uzair Aziz of our campsite at Shandur Top, near Mas Junali, the Moon Polo Field.
All KL Academy of Polo staff have had at least one vaccination, and in the next few weeks, all will complete second doses.
It’s a good thing, because the Covid pandemic seems to have exploded in the Klang Valley. The Royal Selangor Polo Club held out for longer than most clubs, but now, two people who work there have tested positive. Both got it from their spouses, who work outside the club. One is a grounds staff, and the other a professional polo player / trainer. They are now in home quarantine.
The club has gone into another lockdown. Members are not allowed in, and every staff who works there will be swabbed this morning. Then there will be more sanitization.
Covid is no longer at our doorstep. It’s through the door. It’s merciless and it is very dangerous. Stay vigilant, stay safe and stay home!
