The Secretariat

In 2011, we had a crew of people that ran the secretariat of the FIP Polo World Cup Zone D Play-offs.  This was the secretariat of the F.O.A. fame.  We have remained friends, though some are no longer based in Kuala Lumpur.  Coming from her base in Langkawi, Sue Crawford, and Beverly Whittel visited while in Kuala Lumpur.

The 2011 World Cup really was an epic tournament.  It was then, and remains the biggest and most successful FIP World Championship event held. 216 horses were used to host the seven countries that played in this tournament.  The final was a magical affair that was witnessed by HRH Sultan Ahmad Shah, Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib, Prime Minister of Malaysia, FIP President Eduardo Huergo, HRH Maharaja of Jodhpur, and Ambassadors of India, Pakistan, Nigeria and many more.

The countries that took part were Australia, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa and of course, Malaysia, as hosts.  It took two years of planning and work to pull it off.  We used over 70 BMW cars, seven deluxe coaches, police escorts, helicopter shuttles, four hotels, and three polo fields, finishing at the Royal Selangor Polo Club.

Have a look at Armand Ali’s photos of the tournament.

It was great to reunite at the club where that epic tournament ended, our home club.  RSPC really has had some wonderful tournaments in the last decade.  The FIP World Cup set the tone for the next ten years.

Here are the FOA’s as we looked in 2011.  Yup, we all look exactly the same as we did ten years ago!
