CSI 1* EAM-KLPC International Show Jumping

I’ll be course designing the CSI 1* EAM-KLPC International Show Jumping on the polo field of the Kuala Lumpur Polo Club next weekend.  It is the first big jumping event to be held on the field since I organized the 2018 Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis Cup there in 2018.

We will be using a nice, large arena of 100 x 50 m, a little smaller than I asked for (which was 120 x 80 m), but large enough that the riders will be able to get a gallop on.  The Equestrian Association of Malaysia will rent the jump set from STCEC, so it is set I am familiar with.  The KLPC’s non-FEI PVC set will be used in the 60 x 26.5 m sand arena for the smaller classes.

The amount of rain we have had will make it challenging for the course design, not to mention the horses, as we will be running four classes a day, on the very soft grass.  Riders, I’d advise you all to be ready to screw in your studs.

There will be a Tent-Pegging competition to be run in the afternoons too, but at least this will be on the sand track in front of the clubhouse, so it won’t be too bad in terms of footing.

It is the first International Tent-Pegging Federation competition ever to be held in Malaysia.  I didn’t think I could miss this milestone event, so I’ve brought my old lance out of retirement.  Might even give it a polish.

I’ve asked Julian Lancia to have a go at Tent-Pegging.  Gives the event a bit of international flavour, and is excellent training for Julian.

After that big weekend, I’m off to Argentina!

It’s been three years since I was there.  This year I’ll get to see another Argentine Open Final.  Then we go to Pilar for six days of six chukkas.

Can’t wait.
