The TSPC Low Goal League is the first tournament of the year at the Selangor Polo Club. Six teams are entered for this 1-goal tournament. Everyone is looking forward to some competitive polo again, after the 1st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament and the Battle of the Sexes. With Covid striking out some players and some even succumbing to preseason fresh horses, there have been a few changes to the line-ups already.
Datin Nurul was supposed to play with Tun Yasir Moiz in the La Familia team, but Datin Nurul took a tumble, and will have surgery on her wrist on Wednesday. We wish her all the very best with the procedure and hope to have her back on the field again soon.
I was also looking forward to seeing Tun Yasir play again – we’ve missed him for three or four seasons – but he is unable to play this time. With Covid infection numbers still high, there will probably be more changes before the tournament is over, but here are the teams, as it stands now:

The format and schedule is as follows:

The Malaysian season got started this month with some tournaments.
RMPA’s 4-Goal Merdeka League was played at Putrajaya, with TUN Putra coming back to beat Ranhill Polo in 4 – 3 in the final. Royal Pahang took 3rd place honours ahead of La Raza – JL Polo. Jogo Polo finished 5th, with Amax Polo picking up the wooden spoon.
Saturday’s Battle of The Sexes was hit with changes to the rosters. The TSPC boys were not in a charitable mood, and won 15 – 3 1/2. The match was so lop-sided, it could be argued that even the three goals the ladies scored, was almost charity.
I’m happy to be playing with Julian Lancia and Amirul Aimann in Boom Chukka Laka. At 15 and 16 years old, these are two young guns with a super polo future ahead of them. They had a good 1MYPT. I’ve been lucky enough to coach and guide them at KL Academy of Polo.
Most of all, I am happy to play again with Johan Indot, my team-mate when winning the 2005 RMPA National League when it was a 6-goal league, with Nicholas Kosmastos and Syed Rahimi. (Pic right: the RSPC team – 2005 RMPA National League winners.) I’m a little jealous of Joe, who hasn’t lost any hair whatsoever, while mine has gone completely grey. Hopefully, Joe and I can bring a little experience to this team.
With age also comes pain. Injuries take a lot longer. I’m carrying injuries to my hitting shoulder and right ankle. Rehabbing has actually been fun, and this morning I was finally able to get on my bicycle for a quick 12 km ride, the first I have been able to do in over a month. I’m looking forward to Thursday, when I will be able to play against an old friend, Dato’ Mohamed Moiz. I’ve been playing with and against him since 1977. Over the years, we have seen friends come and friends go. We are still out there, hopefully still able to play our handicaps on Thursday.
For true polo players, lifelong friendships are forged on the field.
