A Return to Course Designing

As real horse shows return, I have a return to real course designing, not just designing it on paper and watching the events remotely, but actually building the courses.  I am the course designer for next week’s STCEC Annual Horse Show, at the Selangor Turf Club Equestrian Centre.  It’s great to have real horse shows again. I’m looking forward to getting out there are building the tracks and fences.

Here is the show schedule: https://www.pbitg.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/STCEC-show-booklet-final-version-.pdf

The FEI World Jumping Challenge is part of this show, so I get the Saturday off while the EAM runs that portion of the jumping, building Tokyo Olympics Course Designer Santiago Varela’s courses.  I recently attended an online clinic given by Santiago Varela, which was very interesting.

There is four days of jumping at this show, which seems quite a lot, but there is really only one class per height each day.  We start with Showjumping Equitation on Thursday, the Jump-Offs on Friday, the FEI World Challenge on the Saturday, and finish with Special 2-Phases on the final day.

Having been asked by the EAM, I shall myself be giving an online seminar on 29th November, the day after the STCEC Annual Horse Show.    I will not only be teaching course designing, but helping riders interpret some of the tracks, lines and combinations that course designers use.
