45 mm of rain fell on Wednesday morning, throwing the KL Triple Crown II tournament out of kilter. As good as the drainage is at the KL Polo Club, we had to postpone matches further. Finding a solution to completing this tournament by Sunday means playing some games out of sequence. The young studs of La Familia II have only played one game so far. Hopefully they will have their chance this afternoon and tomorrow to get back on track.
Here’s what the schedule looks like now:
Our makeshift team of KLAP Boom had a good game against TB Windhorse on Sunday. Tuesday’s game was never going to be easy, against a three pro La Familia 1 team. We cantered to a 8-2 loss. Tomorrow’s game against La Familia II will be as difficult. Ginecito Bargallo, Tomas Delfino and Imran Moiz are looking very good. They remind me of the Rebels.
A fact that startled me was that their combined ages does not even add up to mine. And therein lies the reason I am not playing – old age. My body is breaking down, and it seems to be injury after injury, some not even riding or horse related. So, it is great to have Charlie Wood here to play and teach. Charlie is 4-goaler, and New Zealand’s South Island player of the year. He spent 8 years at Ham Polo Club, in London, instructing and rising to become Head Coach and Assistant Polo Manager.
It is good to see some players who want to improve take lessons from Charlie. It is sad to see some would-be polo players ignore the chance.
Unless you make an effort to improve, you generally don’t.
