Polo starts this weekend with the KL Polo Club’s Season Opener. RMPA will also hold a 4-goal Merdeka tournament, which is nowadays classified as a medium goal. With Ramadan just a few weeks away, the polo season will really get going in May, with the best polo in June, July and August.
Here is the schedule for the year:

RMPA has published handicap list on WhatsApp, presumably in addition to the last handicap list of 2020. Here is their document: RMPA DOC-20230227-WA0027.
Unfortunately I won’t be here to play this weekend, as I will be putting on my FEI Level 3 Course Designer’s hat. I shall be course designing a show jumping event in Singapore at the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre, nowadays run by my old friend and fellow Asian Games rider Roy Ibrahim.
I was last at STCRC for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, already 13 years ago. Zack’s Tack won a contract to supply the fences and saddlery for the Youth Olympics. All the fences were designed by John Vallance, who is an FEI Level 4 (Official) course designer, and built in Singapore.
I had a bit of input in the designs as I have known John since 1991, and was happy to make suggestions on things like the butterfly fences – which is a story in itself!
Bukit Timah Saddle Club has finally moved out of Bukit Timah, moved into new premises at the Turf Club. And with Colts Polo School also there, Kranji is becoming an equestrian hub of its own.
It feels good to be going back to my old riding haunts, if only for a few days.
