Boom Chukka Laka squeaked into the final of the TSPC Low Goal with a goal inside the last minute to beat La Familia 6 -5. It was an action packed match withe the youngsters, Julian Lancia and Amirul Aimann coming to the fore for Boom Chukka Laka, and Imran Moiz for La Familia.
We caught them by surprise as I moved upfield to man-mark Muhd Faizal (Cupita). It left Imran looking for a man before he latched on to Samsuri. I handed over penalty taking duties to Julian and Aimann. The boys alternated penalty taking by the chukka. Bom Chukka Laka won penalties and converted most of them, as La Familia made mistakes early in the game. We got three goals in the first chukka. Adding two more in the second, we had a 5 – 1 lead going into the break.
Both Imran and Cupita have SEA Games experience. They have handled pressure before. La Familia was always going to come back – we knew they were too good not to. We had to hold our nerve as they clawed their way back to 5 – 5. Boom Chukka Laka kept pressing, and in the end, it was simple tap in by Aimann, with 49 seconds left that won the match.
In the other semi-final, Amran Selamat was outstanding in guiding Tu Windhorse to 7 – 4 1/2 win over T-Satrias.
Boom Chukka Laka will meet Tu Windhorse in the final on Friday. That is, if we can play it Friday. There was another tropical monsoon storm after yesterday’s games were concluded. Two days in a row of such heavy rain puts the games at risk. We do have Saturday 2nd April as a spare day, and might have to use it.
