The aftermath of Shandur has been incredible. I am still on a high. This is a trip that will stay with us for life. The events we have witnessed, the sights we have seen, the old friendships renewed and new friendships made, all lift us to a higher plane.

The day of the Shandur Polo Festival’s big match began early. Everyone was up early, possibly because it had been a cold night for camping. The temperature got down to about 2 centigrade.

Day 3 saw the tour head to Mastuj. We followed the river for 150 km from Chitral to Mastuj, climbing to 9,000 feet above sea level. The drive was full of spectacular scenery. Ravines, gorges, snow-capped mountains, running streams and always the Mighty Mastuj racing down.

It is a matter of days before we leave for Pakistan for the Royal Tour of Chitral and the Shandur Polo Festival. I’m very excited, not just because the tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but also because I have some of my dearest friends coming for it.
