The Agong’s father, the former Sultan of Pahang, Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah, passed away this morning.
He will be remembered for his love and contribution to sports, in particular to the Football Association of Malaysia, and as President, and later as Patron of the Royal Malaysian Polo Association.
HRH Sultan Ahmad Shah had served as the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1979 to 1984. During this period, there were many fine polo tournaments played in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. He was an imposing player on the polo field. A master strategist, Sultan Eddie as he was known, was a quick thinking team player, but also known for his surging runs.
My deepest condolences to the Pahang Royal Family. May his soul rest in peace. Al-Fatihah.
