Natasha and I visited Peter on Sunday. We knew it was farewell. The end has come mercifully quick for Peter. I have seen Peter at the horse shows nearly every month, and the photo of us was taken at the MA-ENA Unique Horse Show in Ipoh at the end of March. We had had a good chat as he walked the course I had built for the Sponsors Cup. There was only the two of us and Natasha, who took the photo. Everyone else was at the Derby course.
We discussed the evolution of courses over generations. Peter was as up-to-date as ever on what was happening and told me about some technical courses he had seen.
Peter was a generous man. With Wan Zaleha, they transformed Malaysian jumping with the CSI-W 5* KL Grand Prix and CSI-W FEI World Cup Final. Natasha and I designed and made the Malaysian themed fences for the KL Grand Prix. In those pre-video streaming days, I covered the classes, writing for his on-line KL Grand Prix website, so that it carried almost real-time news of every class.
Peter put Malaysia on the map. Along with him for the ride, we never felt that it was just his ride. It was always our ride. He was one of us.
