It was a real pleasure to get out there and stick and ball again. Sure, the grass was a little long, the horses a little fresh, but the freedom to ride again, to hit that ball and have a bit of a run was a pleasure that I have truly missed these last six weeks. It felt great to get out there again.
KL Academy of Polo started lessons again, but only private lessons or lessons for families from the same households. Everyone who came for lessons were very happy to be allowed to ride again.
As expected, the Conditional Movement Control Order has been extended till 9th June, to encompass the Eid / Hari Raya holidays. Polo won’t start till then. That’s another four weeks from now, but that has not dimmed the excitement of at least being able to ride again.
KL Academy of Polo has scheduled an in-house show for Sunday 14th June, providing CMCO is lifted.
Zack’s Tack is working on CMCO hours of 7:30 to 11:30 am, catering only to the club’s clientele, as visitors are still not allowed into RSPC.
The RMPA International League has been suspended, felled by Covid-19 and the African Horse Sickness outbreak which has claimed the lives of 521 horses in Thailand.
Club polo will still continue in Malaysia. With a ban on movement of horses by DVS, only club cups will be played. The Royal Selangor Polo Club has planned 5-goal club tournaments for this season, when polo eventually starts again.
The horses have had a mini break, and are looking good. Having now lost 12 kg since the start of the year, I’m fit and well and really looking forward to playing some polo again.
