With the easing of the Movement Control Order, the Royal Selangor Polo Club (RSPC) has allowed a return to socially distanced lessons by KL Academy of Polo subject to the club’s Lockdown Regulations, as published by the club. KL Academy of Polo (KLAP) will take a few days to work the horses to ensure that everything is in order, but will aim to restart riding and polo lessons from next weekend.
It’s not going to be the same format of lessons from the pre-Coronavirus days. Here are the New Normal rules that KLAP are introducing (right):
The instructors will be back at work this week, to ride all the school horses themselves.
KLAP will start taking bookings for private or family lessons from Saturday 9th May.
To get the polo ponies ready for stick and ball lessons by the end of the week, I’ll be back in the saddle again from Tuesday – Yippie! It should not take long at all. Our riding groom Talat has been exercising them daily. I expect I’ll just have to give them a bit of a schooling session to remind them of what we want, and a stick and ball session or two, and we should be ready to go.
The same goes for my own horses. They have had a good break, between light work and the paddock on alternate days. My trainer, Sayuti, has been working them diligently, while I was not allowed to ride.
Zack’s Tack will also be opening on a light schedule of mornings only, to service members saddlery and feed needs.
I have no illusions that Covid-19 has been beaten. I shall be taking all precautions that I can. I will not be going back to the good old days. The curve has been flattened sufficiently that we can move to the next battle, but we all must realise, the war against this Coronavirus has not yet been won.
This is the new normal, but I shall be very pleased to ride again.
