To heck with socially distanced polo. Tuesday, the day when full contact was brought back into training chukkas at RSPC, we went flat out. The Pemangku Raja of of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal was a guest player at Royal Selangor Polo Club. Malaysian national captain, Shaik Reismann played his first chukkas in eight months. Dato’ Mohamed Moiz, Imran Moiz and Toh Muda Rizal Ramli also came out to play. With 4-goal Agustin Andrada and Nigerian 2-goaler Mohammed Dangote locked down in Malaysia, suddenly we a pretty good game on.
Instead of counting hits, we were man-marking our opposite numbers again. And running hard! You should have seen the grins on our faces when we came off the field. It was so good to play real polo again.
KL Academy of Polo restarted Friday Instructional Chukkas last week, and hope to repeat it this Friday. On Saturday, I shall be course designing at STCEC’s Merdeka Show. Movement of horses is still restricted in Malaysia, ostensibly because of AHS fears. And with RMCO added to the mix, there are very small entry numbers.
Still, it will be good to get out and about.
