The Coronavirus Covid-19 lockdown has meant that we are have all had to restructure our lives. While we have had to work from home, for whatever work we have at the moment, it also means we exercise at home. Malaysia has not allowed exercise as an excuse to go out. I started a Keto diet this year, and combined with bodyweight and light weight exercises that I do at home, I have managed to lose 10 kg so far. I am in great shape for the polo season, when it restarts again.
Unfortunately, we don’t know when that is. The twin threats of the Coronavirus and the African Horse Sickness in Thailand has put paid to the 14-goal RMPA International League again. RMPA has had to suspend it for another year.
When polo eventually resumes, it will be club polo of a lower level, probably around 6 goals. We will only know when the MCO is lifted and we know when Malaysia is allowed to get back to sporting events. Then we will be able to plan levels and dates that make sense.
Meanwhile, all horses are on ‘welfare exercise‘ as Dr Shri calls it. The Royal Selangor Polo Club is locked down. Even members cannot enter, and not allowed to ride. Some horses are walked or paddocked, but most horses are still in light work, ridden by their grooms and trainers.
There are 70 grooms, trainers club staff living on the premises. I was pleased to sponsor a packed lunch for them all yesterday. It’s going to be a long haul till 28th April and beyond.
Meanwhile, Zack’s Tack is still open on-line and we can make deliveries by Grab. If anyone is in need of Zack’s Tack’s Handy Sanitizer and Stable Disinfectant, or Bug-Off to stave off biting midges, please WhatsApp Zack’s Tack at 014 331 4900 or email prozack@zackstack.com.
