Four games into the 8-Goal RSPC Triple Crown and we are already realising it isn’t like the RMPA International League. It is less predictable. All teams are made up of two patrons and two professionals. What we are seeing is a 5 or a 6-goaler trying to dominate, and to a lesser extent, the 2 or 3-goal pro used as a cutting edge. Compared to the International League, where we would get two 5 or 6-goalers playing off each other, this 8-goal version is inexact.
The results are mixed. The two teams, La Sarita and La Familia Windhorse, that won quite easily in their opening games at Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya were then upset in their next games at the Royal Selangor Polo Club on Saturday, beaten by Thai Polo and La Familia respectively.
It means that the RSPC Classic is perfectly poised with every team on one win each, going into this afternoon’s games. The matches today have become virtual semi-finals: La Familia Windhorse vs La Sarita at 3:00 pm and Thai Polo vs La Familia at 5:00 pm.
Whoever wins today will be in the final on Saturday.
